Is your bedroom dedicated for sleeping and resting only, or are you also using it for your daily activities and working? In ideal world there should be room for all activities in every part of the day for everyone living there. But if you could do only one thing in your home it should be to dedicate your bedroom for sleeping and resting, by providing it with calm and fresh atmosphere where it is easy to relax.
If you can, choose your bedroom to be on the north or east side, where the morning sunlight wakes you up naturally and the rooms stay cooler in summer. Help the room stay as fresh as possible by opening windows every day to let air circulate. Change fresh bedlinen as often as possible, and when washing them let them get dry outdoors for maximum freshness. In winter, if the temperature goes to freezing below zero celsius, you might benefit of leaving your duvets out a couple of hours (may sound crazy but it works!) to get rid of those nasty bed bugs.
Why not to pamper yourself and buy a pair of silk pillow cases, as silk proteins make your hair shinier as well! Good quality high thread count satin sheets add a luxurious feel and maintain the comfort wash after wash. I choose my bedlinen all crispy white, and use only the under bed sheet in different colour, like light blue or turquoise for extra calming effect.
I also like to keep my feel good photos or an enlarged print of my favourite postcard on the wall to make me happy when wake up in the morning. A soft wool rug next to my bed and a pair of fluffy slippers ready waiting for me to step out the bed. I also would like to try an air cleaner or ionizer to provide a cleaner indoor air. Maybe you like to have your favourite music available, but just leave it to books and music, as you don’t want any extras into your relaxation zone.
